Once a traditional Lakeland cottage, Carr Crag Cottage has recently undergone extensive renovations and now provides exquisite accommodation overlooking the splendid Great Langdale Valley. This home of pure distinction has been carefully designed to capture every glimpse of the iconic Langdale fells, while the modern interiors offer all you could need for a luxury self-catering holiday in The Lake District. Carr Crag Cottage is ideal for groups of friends or multi-generational family gatherings.
Initially welcomed into the open hallway, the bespoke kitchen is found to the right, inclusive of all mod cons needed for self-catering, while the jaw-dropping living room sits to the left. Floor-to-ceiling windows frame the ever-changing views, with striking colours and bold patterns pairing perfectly. Gather the family around the large dining table or enjoy the freedom of open-plan living.
Toward the rear of the property, you’ll find a handy utility, cloakroom, and light-filled sunroom – ideal for soaking up the garden views and enjoying much-deserved time away.
Sleeping eight, the accommodation comprises four spacious bedrooms, all individually styled with bold colours and premium fittings. There is one super-king suite, one king bedroom (with en-suite), one double bedroom and one further twin bedroom. The ‘pièce de resistance’ at Carr Crag Cottage must be the principal suite, not least with its deep-pocketed mattress, but the luxury of waking up and remotely opening the curtains to reveal ‘THAT VIEW’. It’s staggering! Two of the bedrooms have large en-suites, and there’s an equally spacious family shower room sitting between the additional bedrooms.
Externally, Carr Crag Cottages offers private grounds for the whole family to enjoy. With a wood-fired hot tub, BBQ, fire pit area overlooking the fells, and an expanse of lawns, there is no reason to leave this fabulous abode.

- Airy sunroom with comfortable seating for 6 guests, DAB Pure radio, and access to the rear terrace.
- Cloakroom with basin and WC.
- Convenient utility room with tall American-style fridge/freezer, washing machine, tumble dryer, clothes airer, sink, and ample storage for boots, coats, and other outdoor wear.
FIRST FLOOR
- Bedroom 1 – Principal master suite with super-king bed, SMART TV with SkyQ, separate dressing room, spacious en-suite with rainfall walk-in shower, free-standing bath, basin, and WC.
- Feature balcony with outdoor seating to enjoy the far-reaching views of the Langdale Valley.
- Bedroom 2 – King-sized bedroom with wall-mounted TV, dressing table, generous storage, and en-suite shower room with walk-in shower, basin, and WC.
- Bedroom 3 – Double bedroom with garden views, TV, generous storage, compact dressing table, and DAB radio.
- Bedroom 4 –Twin bedroom with TV, storage, and compact dressing table.
- Family Shower Room – Spacious shower room with walk-in rainfall shower, basin, and WC.
OUTSIDE
- Wrap around gardens with stunning fell views to the front and spacious lawns to the rear.
- BBQ and fire pit area overlooking the Great Langdale Valley – gas is provided for the BBQ but please bring logs and firelighters for the fire pit.
- Wooden ‘picnic’ style bench seating for al fresco dining.
- A wood-fired hot tub positioned at the front of the house with far reaching views of the Langdale Valley.
Need to know
- Parking at Carr Crag Cottage is free of charge for up to 4 vehicles on the private driveway. There is 1 EV charger which you have complimentary access to.
- Check-in from 4 pm and check-out by 10 am. A 5 pm checkout can be offered on Friday to Sunday bookings only.
- 2 well-behaved dogs are welcome - kindly note: although the garden is dog-proof, it cannot be described as entirely ‘secure’ due to its size and formation.
- There is underfloor heating throughout the ground floor, with a combination of radiators and underfloor heating on the second floor.
- An initial supply of logs and kindling are provided for the log burner(s).
- All utilities, luxury bed linens, and towels are included in the rental price.
- A cot and highchair are available on request.
- Gas is provided for the BBQ – please notify us immediately if the supply runs out so that we can ensure an adequate provision for all guests.
- Carr Crag Cottage has a £300 security deposit that is pre-authorised against your card 7 days before your stay – seek further details in the booking terms and conditions.
- Please note that our trusted hot tub contractor visits the property daily to check water quality and levels. This is a routine maintenance visit to ensure everything remains clean and safe. Guests do not need to be present during these checks.

An absolute gem of a holiday retreat
Located close to Ambleside’s amenities and within a few minutes of a number of stunning walks, Carr Crag Cottage was a delightful place to stay! The location has the upmost privacy, spacious rooms, tastefully appointed interiors and a hot tub view that is simply incredible. My only regret is booking for a week when a fortnight would have even better....

8 of us stayed to celebrate a birthday. We were lucky and the weather was perfect. The location and views are stunning. Property is large, comfortable and excellently equipped. Great sunsets and nighttime views of the stars. Lots of wildlife including red squirrels. Would recommend this property.

A truly wonderful place!
I stayed at Carr Crag Cottage with my extended family in July 2025. There were 5 adults and 3 children under 5. The setting was beautiful with amazing views over Langdale Pikes. I stayed at Carr Crag Cottage with my extended family in July 2025. There were 5 adults and 3 children under 5. The setting was beautiful with amazing views over Langdale Pikes. The extensive garden was a fun place for the boys to play on their bikes and for us to sit and enjoy the sunshine in a variety of different locations. We made use of the wood fired hot tub, BBQ and electric car charger which were all included in the price. The kitchen was extremely well-equipped and the bedrooms were very comfortable. Everything was furnished to the highest standard- even the high chair and travel cot were brand new! (A stair gate would also be useful- we provided our own.) There were plenty of things to do in the surrounding area. We sailed from Ambleside to Brockhole, walked to Elterwater, visited the Beatrix Potter Exhibition in Bowness, did the Stick Man Trail at Grizedale and visited a Maize Maze outside Kendal. We even had a chef come to cook dinner for the adults one night! A truly memorable 65th birthday celebration! Hope to come back again as so many more things to do and explore.

Plenty of walks to do from the door and not far to Ambleside for amenities or to other central walks. Beds were really comfy and the house was very well equipped and spotlessly clean. The change of bed linen partway through our fortnight was very welcome.

Beautifully designed and styled throughout, with a real sense of quality and care in every detail. The open-plan kitchen and living space was perfect for spending time together and we especially loved the sunroom for times when we wanted a quiet moment with the surrounding nature.
The kitchen was extremely well equipped, with everything we needed (and more), and the separate utility room came in very handy for muddy boots and coats. And of course, the dedicated drinks fridge was a brilliant bonus!
The setting is spectacular - peaceful, private, and surrounded by views that never get old. We made the most of the wood-fired hot tub, which was a real highlight, especially after a long walk from the doorstep or a day exploring the many lovely villages nearby.
