Fantastic stay
Holly | May 2026
Garden cottage is set in a beautiful old complex and is very quiet and secluded. It is the perfect location for exploring the Lakes, but there are also good walks from the door into the surrounding hills and along the river, where we saw otters and a kingfisher. The cottage is well appointed, warm and we wanted for nothing. The...
Great Cosy Stay Over Christmas
Nicholas | January 2026
The cottage was the perfect place for my family and I to spend Christmas. The whole place was well stocked and the host added lots of little touches that added to the Christmas spirit in the house, including a live Christmas tree! The kitchen was also amazingly well equipped, allowing us to cook a full Christmas dinner without much additional...

Beautiful and Relaxing
Stuart | August 2025
We had a lovely 4 night stay at this beautiful and scenic cottage with 2 adults and 2 children and our dog. Hosts were fantastic, with bacon, eggs, milk and artisan bread provided on our arrival. Cottage was very comfortable (beds especially) and location was great for exploring all spots around Lake Windermere and very close to Kendal.

A beautiful, well-equipped cottage with very thoughtful touches throughout including a hamper on arrival. Location excellent and well connected for exploring. All combined for a lovely, relaxing week.
Peace & tranquility
Fiona | May 2025
Our stay at Garden Cottage was perfect. Following a difficult return to the UK from the US recently, we needed to find a place to stay before we could move into a flat in Edinburgh and the peace and tranquility we experienced at this property was exactly what we needed. Jill and Chris (and Bertie) were perfect hosts and made...
One of the best.
Elizabeth | April 2025
Lovely cottage in a peaceful setting, in a picturesque little conclave of old farm buildings. Perfectly quiet and relaxing. The owners left an amazing welcome pack, and all fuel for the stove for the duration of our stay - and gave us a warm personal welcome. The beds were extremely comfortable. Luggage trips up and down the steps weren't really...
Amazing Place
Andrew | March 2025
The cottage is in a great location, very peaceful and rural, but only 15 mins from Kendal and Windermere. It's a perfect base for walking the Eastern fells. It was really comfy and well equipped, with some great little touches, like fresh bread, bacon and milk waiting for us. Plus deer and badgers in the grounds, which was a bonus!...
Get away from it all.
Alan | February 2025
Great stay at Garden Cottage, a lovely place to get away from it all but with Kendall and Windermere both within easy access. Food provided by owners was a nice extra and the log burner proved a welcome feature on some cold, damp February nights. Well equipped and comfortable, with lovely views across the valley. Good fun playing spot the...

Garden cottage was newly refurbished in May to a high standard. It was spotlessly clean and extremely well equipped. The owners were very welcoming, friendly and a great source of local information. We were provided with the most amazing welcome pack on arrival. The location, accessed via a long single track road, was stunning for a quiet get away. We...

South Lakes & Kendal

Garden Cottage is located at High Hundhowe, Burneside, sitting on the periphery of the Lake District National Park and only a short distance from the popular towns of Staveley, Kendal and Windermere, all offering an abundance of amenities such as shops, cafes, pubs and restaurants.

The delightful country gardens set the scene for a calming break, with far-reaching views of the Kent valley and even Coniston Old Man in the distance. From Garden Cottage itself, set out on the many local footpaths and enjoy the spring flowers, or climb up through a typical Lakeland farm to Potter Fell and the bathing tarn Gurnal Dubs, or down to the road via Side House with its lovely waterfall.
